Swimming Lessons

From 4 months old

These fun, structured lessons not only develop the bond between parent and child but also teach life saving, swimming skills and will help strengthen the child’s cognitive and physical development.

  • Our enrolment process is very easy using our Frogtastic app.
  • Once installed, parents are able to sign up for weekly swimming lessons by simply paying for 4 lessons in advance. Future payments will be made automatically for 4 lessons in advance. This process will continue until such a time as you decide to stop.

Who are they for?

‘Duckling’ parent and child classes are available to children aged from just 4 months old. Children will begin their swimming journey with Frogs & Friends at Duckling 1 stage.

We understand this may be a daunting experience for some parents, especially if you are not confident in the water. However, our very experienced swimming instructors will ensure you are able to enter the water with your child independently and will demonstrate how to hold them in the correct position so that they are able to move safely in the water.

Your child’s journey will see them progress through 6 stages. By Duckling 6 stage, they will have learnt to become more independent in the water. At the end of their Duckling journey, most children aged approx 2.5 years old will then be confident in the water to progress onto the Starfish classes. Here parents observe the lesson from poolside and are not required to get in the water.

Frogs & Friends is a Community Interest Company and as such is committed to proving the very best service to our customers within the local community.

We provide a quality service and the way in which we take payment is both fair and flexible.

How do I enrol my child or children for the first time?

  • All parents are required to download our Frogs & Friends App. Once downloaded you will be able to register and book for a ‘Parent & Baby Membership’ at one of our available venues.
  • In order for you to enrol you will need to add your credit or debit card details. Once these have been added a member of our team will contact you to discuss and confirm your class allocation based on the venue and day you have chosen to attend.
  • On confirmation of your allocation your ‘Parent & Baby Membership’ will be activated and your recurring payment will be scheduled.

What is a recurring payment?

  • All fees for swimming lessons are paid via recurring payments. Parents pay for 4 lessons in advance and then every 4 lessons thereafter.

Enrolling multiple children

  • It is important to note if parents wish to enrol multiple children they would need to set up a recurring payment for each child. This will then allow them to cancel each swimmer individually.

Teachers

Our instructors are not only qualified swimming teachers but also hold specialist parent and child teaching qualifications. They are warm, caring, dedicated, fun, empathetic and are more than happy to give advice or answer any questions you may have.

Benefits of Baby and Toddler Swimming

  • IMPROVES: Cognitive function, confidence, coordination, sleep, appetite, social interaction, gross and fine motor skills
  • BUILDS: Muscle
  • DEVELOPS: Bond between parent and child
  • REDUCES: Risk of drowning

These are just some of the benefits of baby and toddler swimming. Activities in the swimming pool, such as reaching for toys, will help develop their fine motor skills. This in turn will help with the overall development of the child. Moving through the water encourages children to carry out cross-patterning movements. This will help develop reading skills, academic learning, language development and spatial awareness. Swimming will help promote muscle development and control.

Regular swimming for your child is beneficial for their cardiovascular health and will strengthen their heart, lungs and brain. In a swimming lesson your child will be moving in a completely new way, using lots of energy. This can make them feel tired and therefore helps to improve sleeping and appetite.

What children learn and what to expect

Frogs & Friends lessons are based on making sure the parent and child has fun whilst learning. The experienced swimming teacher will adapt the lesson according to the needs of the class. Demonstrations will be given to ensure parents understand the task in hand. Various songs will be sung and games played to help make the child feel comfortable in the water.

When and where do lessons take place?

At Frogs & Friends we understand that parents have busy lives and therefore offer lessons during the week and at the weekend. Lessons are held at exceptional venues, where the water is warm and the changing facilities are suitable. Lessons are 30 minutes in duration, during term time.

How do I track my child’s progress?

You will be able to track your child’s progress and be aware of their next swimming milestone by using the Frogs & Friends App. Our instructors will regularly update your child’s achievements.

What do they need?

For Baby/Toddler:

  • Swim nappy (we kindly request used nappies are disposed of at home)
  • Swimwear
  • Towel – hooded towels are extremely handy
  • Changing mat
  • Regular nappy to wear after their lesson
  • Warm hat for after swimming – little heads can get cold easily
  • Snack and a drink for the journey home – swimming is great for building an appetite!

For Parent:

  • Swimwear
  • Towel

Vaccinations

  • Based on NHS guidelines, your baby doesn’t need vaccinations before getting into the pool. As soon as they’re ready, we’re ready!

The Big Day

Arriving

Adults and babies should be ready to start swimming as soon as the lesson before has finished. We recommend that you arrive at least 15 minutes before your class to ensure you feel nice and comfortable and relaxed before getting in. We know how frantic it can be sometimes!

Getting changed

All our pools have changing facilities suitable for you and your baby. Remember to bring your changing mat for your little one.

Feeding

When little ones get a little fussy in the water, it might be because they’re a bit peckish. Feed them 1 hour before the lesson, just keep it a light bite! With toddlers, we also suggest leaving an hour before their meal and lesson.
